Although only the Rand is accepted in South Africa, you can exchange any other cash for Rand at the airport. If you want to compare the exchange rate to the Euro, Pound, Dollar, or any other currency, you may quickly do so by searching Google. To avoid worrying about carrying too much cash, we suggest that you contact your bank to find out if your credit or debit card will function in South Africa (thanks to the widely available card facilities). For minor tips, however, we advise taking some cash, such as a R100 broken up into smaller amounts that include notes and coins, and for when you’re visiting more remote areas, you might want to carry about R2000 in cash for when you might need it

By our standards, some of the places you visit will be rather impoverished, therefore it is impolite to display cash or jewelry there. Keep your jewelry at home and only bring minimal amounts of cash with you. Passports and valuables should be left in hotel safes or with camp directors.

You’ll discover that everyone is incredibly welcoming, helpful, and eager to please. A lifetime of memories will be shaped by the natural beauty and serenity, spectacular animals, and warm welcome of the locals!

If the vaccination certificate or card cannot be verified, officials from the Department have the authority to reach out to the appropriate embassy or High Commission in South Africa to authenticate the vaccination proof issued by the respective country.

Malaria; Since malaria can be a concern in some areas of the northeast (where the most well-known parks and reserves are), it is important to use insect repellent at night, sleep under a net, and take any anti-malarial medications as prescribed by your doctor.

Vaccinations; Hepatitis A and B and Typhoid vaccinations need to be taken into account; we advise contacting a travelers’ clinic for advice tailored to the destination nation. If you’re going to Zanzibar, you need a Yellow Fever shot. For a travel medical clinic in your city, we can give you their phone numbers.

Water & Food; Drinking tap water or eating anything that doesn’t agree with you, both of which might cause an upset stomach for a few days, pose the most significant health risk. Be careful when eating, even if the food served at the majority of safari camps is always safe and frequently of the highest quality. Only drink treated water.
